Tradition
Practice begins with the forms or kata of Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu as well as oral transmission passed on for generations through suburi (practice swinging of the sword).
Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu consists of sets of kata that are unique and specific to the study of swordsmanship and they are esoteric and strategic in nature, thus making this art form a lifelong study. It is through the study of iaido that one cultivates within themselves a sense of loyalty, honor, manners, and peace by training the body and the mind. Practitioners of Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu participate in the ceremonies passed down from ancient Japanese traditions. Other activities include participating in the annual Taikai, Seminars, and other special events throughout the year.
Promotions in Shin Shin Ryu start at the Shodan level. In this Koryu, Menjo (scroll) are awarded based on an assessment of each individuals study. Quarterly evaluations are set in place for each practitioner to asses and ascertain areas of improvement and to ensure quality of instruction is up to standards according to the Soke of Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu. Menjo are signed and stamped from the headmaster or Soke of Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu.
